This morning, Project Veritas released a video describing how an employee at Pinterest leaked documents revealing exactly how the organization censors conservative ideas on its platform.

Pinterest labeled several conservative sites as porn, including PJ Media and liveaction.org, which makes it impossible for someone to post a link to these sites on Pinterest. Bible verses and other Christian specific phrases are on the platform’s “sensitive terms list.”

Their “porn” block-list also includes Big League politics, American Thinker, The Rebel Media, teaparty.org, The western Journal, The Proud Boys, and BizPac Review — just to name a few.

None of these sites are porn but all of them are conservative news sources.

When one of the members of Pinterest’s “trust and safety” team came across an appeal to remove Liveaction.org from the porn block-list, she stated “I don’t think it should be removed.” They labeled undercover videos on planned parenthood as a conspiracy theory too.

Pinterest also severely restricted searches for things relating to Christianity including bible verses. They do this through their “sensitive terms list” or “STL.” In their STL are phrases like “Bible verses,” “Christian Easter,” “Christian quotes,” and other similarly harmless but Christian specific terms.

In fact, Pinterest’s censorship follows it’s own official hate speech policy, which tells employees to:

“Hide content diminishing the beliefs, institutions, and movements held sacred by others.”

Apparently, Pinterest considers bible verses as disparaging to the LGBTQ community, but don’t think twice about offending Christians with “pride” postings. These Christian terms are also being labeled as “brand unsafe” which means that you can’t search for them. Many times, the content is totally blocked from Pinterest.

Blocking conservative content has unfortunately become a common theme across big tech websites like YouTube, Facebook, and Google.

When President Donald Trump was elected in 2016, these websites spent a year crying about it — and then decided that it would never happen again. They concluded that the only way President Trump was elected is that people were allowed to hear the other side of the story — the majority of which was found only online.

As we get closer to 2020, we are seeing more and more censorship of conservatives. Pinterest is just the latest addition to the ongoing censorship battle.
